Connery was the son of a truck driver. After dropping out of school at the age of 13, he joined the Royal Navy. He had various odd jobs and in 1953, he placed third in the Mr. Universe contest. It got him a job in the South Pacific chorus and was in various theatre productions. In 1962, he was cast as Bond in Dr. No. Ian Fleming said "He is not exactly what I envisioned". Fleming later pulled an Anne Rice. Tired of being type-cast as Bond, Connery gave up the role. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1987, for his role as the Irish cop, Malone, in The Untouchables. He was named by People's Magazine, The Sexiest Man Alive. His first wife was Diane Cilento.They had a son, Jason Connery. His current wife is Micheline Roquebrune. |
